At Vos Logistics we put a great amount of effort in training our Drivers. To enhance the quality of the services we provide, but also to make sure they can work comfortably and safely.

To start with, all of our International Transport Drivers participate in an onboarding training. After the initial theoretical part, they spend a minimum of two weeks with a mentor Driver who teaches them operational work, safety awareness and practical aspects of the job. Afterwards, an evaluation takes place in which the mentor Driver judges whether the new employee can subsequently work on his or her own.

In order to enhance their quality of work and their knowledge further, our Bulk Drivers receive additional trainings on typical Bulk-related activities. The Drivers’ work regularly demands thorough understanding of safety requirements and the professional handling of situations. In that case it is essential to know everything about the products they load, transport and unload. To keep themselves safe and others around them. Trainings given include:

HACCP/GMP+ training

What: Food and feed products safety
How: Drivers are taught how to deal with this type of products in transport, how to prevent contamination, how important it is to seal a trailer and control it on its way to the customer. Furthermore, they obtain information on allergens, hygiene policy, extra caution and incident reporting in case of any non-conformity observed while underway with their respective load.

Cleaning training

What: Practical training at our cleaning station in Oss
How: Drivers take part in cleaning of a trailer and auxiliaries (hoses, couplings, gaskets, filters etc.) so they are aware what is important to pay attention to after collecting a trailer from a cleaning station. They practice how to make a visual check, how to properly control cleaning documents (cleaning certificate), as well as what the control points during and after each cleaning are.

BBS (behaviour based safety)

What:

Training about daily work and duties in the area of safety. It consists of 5 modules:

1. Preparation for shift – important things/documents to remember about

2. Safety – broad look at safety issues, protective equipment, incidents prevention, environmental aspects (OCS included), safe handling of silo trailers, prevention of the use of drugs & alcohol etc.

3. Duties on rotation

4. Daily work and duties (operational aspects) at loading sites

5. Daily work and duties (operational aspects) at unloading sites. This training program is also required and the program topics are recommended by CEFIC (European Chemical Industry Council).

How: Mostly theoretical with the option to upgrade Drivers’ skills practically. The training is given by the Mobile Quality Team and is carried out at least once per five years.

Our Mega and High-Volume Drivers within International Transport receive a detailed training on load security, correct sealing of trailers, prevention against carriage of illegal immigrants and the overall safe handling of trailers. More training programs will be developed in the future.

Dorota Malachowska, Corporate QESH Manager of International Transport at Vos Logistics: “We are constantly working on improving our processes and the way we are working. That is why we are planning on developing our training programs further in the near future. We are currently working on implementing an e-learning platform in which our Drivers can complete some of the training modules online. Also, they can find materials for refreshing their skills on the platform.”

Next to that, Vos Logistics has an online Driver Portal where currently information about loading and unloading addresses is comprehensively collected and kept up-to-date. In the near future, the platform will be further enhanced with internal newsletters, detailed lessons on specific topics, safe parking places and the like. The aim is to gradually extend the information also with more general topics that are of interest to Drivers.

Refreshment training

What: Training given by the Mobile Quality Team, which addresses current issues that Drivers are faced with in order to create awareness and prevent recurrence. Topics include complaints, safety incidents, near-miss situations and the like.
How: Training at several of our rotation bases in Oss for Bulk and Cargo Drivers on a weekly basis.
